Overview

From Valencia with Color

The Palau de les Arts resident orchestra, the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, under the baton of one of Spain's most internationally renowned conductors (also Valencian), presents a journey through early 20th- century works dominated by a profound sense of color. Written between 1907 and 1908, Ravel's Spanish Rhapsody opens the evening with a refined evocation of Hispanic culture, built upon timbral precision and rhythmic pulse. This year, the 150th anniversary of Manuel de Falla's birth, his famous Popular Songs will be performed in Luciano Berio's orchestration, featuring the voice of an extraordinary French mezzo-soprano. The program concludes with The Firebird , the first of Stravinsky's ballets premiered in Paris, a fantastic tale enveloped in the magic of the Russian orchestra that Stravinsky inherited from his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov.

Venue Info

Palace of Charles V - Granada
Location   C. Real de la Alhambra, s/n, Centro

Located within the majestic Alhambra complex, the Palace of Charles V is one of the most extraordinary performance venues of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance. Combining Renaissance grandeur with the mystical atmosphere of the Alhambra, the palace creates a breathtaking setting where music, dance, and history come together beneath the Andalusian night sky.

Built in the 16th century for Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, the palace is renowned for its monumental circular courtyard — an architectural masterpiece unique in Spain. During the festival, this elegant open-air space transforms into a spectacular stage for opera, symphonic concerts, ballet, flamenco, and international dance performances.

The acoustics of the courtyard, framed by harmonious stone colonnades, create a remarkable natural resonance that enhances both orchestral richness and vocal clarity. As evening falls and the warm lights illuminate the Renaissance architecture, performances gain an atmosphere of rare beauty and emotional intensity.

Artists from around the world appear here each summer, making the Palace of Charles V one of the symbolic hearts of the Granada Festival. The combination of world-class performances and the historic surroundings of the Alhambra offers audiences a cultural experience unlike any traditional theatre or concert hall.

The setting itself adds dramatic power to every production. Surrounded by centuries of history, with views toward the gardens and ancient walls of the Alhambra, audiences experience music and dance within one of Europe’s most inspiring artistic landscapes.

Elegant, historic, and unforgettable, the Palace of Charles V transforms every festival performance into a magical encounter between art, architecture, and the spirit of Granada.
