Overview

"Harbin in the Dark" is a large-scale Chinese historical musical based on the famous novel of the same name by Chen Yu . Set in occupied Harbin in 1934, it tells the story of the underground struggle against the Japanese occupation, where love, faith, devotion, and self-sacrifice intertwine with a dangerous spy game.

"Harbin Under the Cover of Night" is a new, original production based on Chen Yu's cult novel, one of the most famous works of Chinese literature about resistance during the Japanese occupation. The novel gained immense popularity through radio dramatizations, broadcast on over 100 radio stations across China, and was later adapted into numerous films.

The story takes place in Harbin in 1934, during the reign of Manchukuo. The protagonist, Wang Yimin, works as a high school teacher but is also a member of an underground anti-Japanese organization. His activities are threatened by the appointment of a new vice-principal, the Japanese Tama Muneichiro (Yumushi Ichiro). A complex intellectual and moral confrontation gradually unfolds between the two characters. Against a backdrop of covert operations, espionage intrigue, and mortal danger, the play explores themes of duty, patriotism, love, loyalty, and the choice between personal happiness and service to the homeland.

The musical production combines dramatic action, modern stage technology, large-scale sets, and original music, transforming the classic work into a spectacular historical musical.
