Betrayed by the scholar she helped, Xie Guiying seeks justice beyond the grave in a traditional Liyuan opera.
After Wang Kui abandons her, Xie Guiying dies and brings her grievance before a supernatural judge. This Shanglu tradition version takes a comic turn: Wang Kui returns to life and builds a chastity arch in honour of Guiying as reparation, ending in reunion. Fujian Province Liyuan Opera Inheritance Centre presents a surviving strand of early southern theatre.
