Peking opera and Kunqu tell two sides of a story of sacrifice, truth and revenge.
Cheng Ying draws a picture to reveal Zhao Wu's past. Peking opera follows Cheng Ying's memories of sacrificing his own child to save the orphan; Kunqu follows the grown Zhao Wu as he questions the truth and seeks revenge. Adapted from the Yuan zaju The Great Revenge of the Orphan of Zhao, with a revenge strand inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet, this is one experimental production presented by the Department of Dramatic Literature at Shanghai Theatre Academy.
