Salle des Combins is the Verbier Festival’s main concert hall. It normally seats 1,419. Each row is on a separate tier, which guarantees an excellent view of the stage. Improvements to the soundproofing and heat insulation make this a very high-quality non-permanent venue. All of the Festival’s symphonic concerts, operas, large world music, jazz, dance events and some recitals are presented here.

The Verbier Festival, now in its 28th year, announces its return for 17 days of concerts, masterclasses, talks and education events in the picturesque setting of the Swiss Alps.

Overview
2021 sees the return of Chilly Gonzales to the stage with a new programme that opens, as always, with various medleys of intimate pieces from the Solo Piano Trilogy. Both hits and hidden surprises from the rest of his repertoire will be found interspersed with new masterclasses full of playful explanations about how music works.
Described by Chilly Gonzales as “not an antidote for our times” but “a reflection of all the beauty and ugliness around us”, Solo Piano III was the 2018 completion of the Solo Piano recording trilogy the Canadian pianist-composer began in 2004 with a genre-bending collection of delicately voiced Satie-inspired miniatures with a pop aesthetic, and then continued in 2012 with Solo Piano II. Listening to it in the context of times over which the whole world has been yearning for antidotes, it represents an exquisitely-fashioned piece of musicologically absorbing escapism whose emotional key is ultimately one in major tonality. Take the charm-with-a-wink of Prelude in C-sharp major, which gently rejigs the time signature of Bach’s famous keyboard Prelude in C major, then sends the music off in surprising new directions. For this tour, Chilly Gonzales is joined on stage for a portion of the show by Stella Le Page, Cello, Joe Flory, Drums & Marine Goldwaser, Clarinet.
