Grafenegg Music Festival 2026

The Grafenegg Music Festival 2026 celebrates its 20th anniversary with a season of extraordinary artistic excellence, transforming the magnificent grounds of Grafenegg Castle into one of Europe’s most captivating destinations for classical music. From 14 August to 6 September 2026, audiences are invited to experience world-class performances beneath open summer skies, surrounded by historic gardens, elegant architecture, and the unique atmosphere of Lower Austria’s cultural landscape.

Programme
Frédéric Chopin: Prelude in C sharp minor, Op.45
Nikolai Medtner: Piano Sonata in F Minor, Op. 5
Kalevi Aho: Piano Sonata no. 3 "Sonata di Fantasia"
Ludwig van Beethoven : Piano Sonata no. 32 in C minor, Op.111
Overview

A virtuoso of the century, a poet at the piano, a magician on the keys and a phenomenon: French pianist Alexandre Kantorow’s music-making is both highly thoughtful and refreshingly spontaneous, contemplative and impulsive.

The fact that his piano playing combines flawless technique with unmistakable stylistic confidence cemented his reputation as one of the greatest pianists of our time. At the age of 22, he won the famous Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, taking home not only the gold medal but also the Grand Prix, an award that has only been presented three times in the competition’s history since 1958. The final afternoon concert of the 2026 festival summer offers the audience a rare opportunity to experience this exceptional musician live in the intimate setting of the Rudolf Buchbinder Hall.
