Overview

A Fascinating Mozart Debut

The Festival also welcomes, for the first time, the prestigious Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under the baton of Zubin Mehta, one of the most admired conductors of the past fifty years. Now 90 and despite his physical limitations, Mehta's authority and interpretative insight of the international repertoire remain undiminished. He turns to Mozart's final three symphonies, composed in the summer of 1788—works that crown the composer's symphonic achievement. Three consecutive and contrasting works, ranging from luminous expanse to dramatic tension and a final affirmation, encapsulate the genius of the Salzburg composer like few others. A high-voltage artistic debut for the Festival, performed by a historic orchestra and an essential conductor.

Venue Info

Palace of Charles V - Granada
Location   C. Real de la Alhambra, s/n, Centro

Located within the majestic Alhambra complex, the Palace of Charles V is one of the most extraordinary performance venues of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance. Combining Renaissance grandeur with the mystical atmosphere of the Alhambra, the palace creates a breathtaking setting where music, dance, and history come together beneath the Andalusian night sky.

Built in the 16th century for Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, the palace is renowned for its monumental circular courtyard — an architectural masterpiece unique in Spain. During the festival, this elegant open-air space transforms into a spectacular stage for opera, symphonic concerts, ballet, flamenco, and international dance performances.

The acoustics of the courtyard, framed by harmonious stone colonnades, create a remarkable natural resonance that enhances both orchestral richness and vocal clarity. As evening falls and the warm lights illuminate the Renaissance architecture, performances gain an atmosphere of rare beauty and emotional intensity.

Artists from around the world appear here each summer, making the Palace of Charles V one of the symbolic hearts of the Granada Festival. The combination of world-class performances and the historic surroundings of the Alhambra offers audiences a cultural experience unlike any traditional theatre or concert hall.

The setting itself adds dramatic power to every production. Surrounded by centuries of history, with views toward the gardens and ancient walls of the Alhambra, audiences experience music and dance within one of Europe’s most inspiring artistic landscapes.

Elegant, historic, and unforgettable, the Palace of Charles V transforms every festival performance into a magical encounter between art, architecture, and the spirit of Granada.
