Chinese vocal ensemble RESOUND turns familiar melodies and original songs into an a cappella concert with audience interaction and no instrumental accompaniment.
RESOUND was formed at Guangzhou’s Xinghai Conservatory of Music and brings together original songwriters, music producers, vocal teachers and singers. The organiser credits the ensemble with national a cappella awards for arrangement and lead vocals, as well as a lead-vocal prize at an international competition in Japan.
The concert is designed around the idea of making a cappella easy to understand. Spoken passages about the performers’ musical journeys link the songs, while staging, lighting and audience participation vary the presentation beyond a conventional unaccompanied vocal set.
The repertoire draws on familiar Chinese songs and the group’s own originals, alongside medleys inspired by animation, martial-arts stories, video games and film. The emphasis stays on voices alone, with rhythm, harmony and melody created without instrumental accompaniment.
