Award-winning pianist Alexander Ullman invites you to an evening of Romantic masterpieces, from Grieg’s evocative Lyric Pieces and orchestral Peer Gynt transcriptions to Liszt’s luminous Liebesträume and Chopin’s stirring Fourth Ballade. Intimate, colourful and virtuoso, this recital unites folklore and fantasy in a single, unforgettable performance.Renowned British pianist Alexander Ullman presents a recital dedicated to the Romantic era’s most poetic voices. The programme opens with Grieg’s final volume of Lyric Pieces, short tone poems alive with Norwegian folk-inspired melody and vivid atmospheres, followed by Ullman’s own piano transcription of Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, revealing the hushed dawn of Morning Mood and the thrilling drive of In the Hall of the Mountain King. Next, Liszt’s tender Liebesträume No. 3 gives way to a dazzling set of variations on the Paganini 24th Caprice, while the modern-hued Nuages gris hints at the composer’s daring spirit. After the interval, Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantasie and selected Études transform dance and technique into poetic soundscapes, culminating in the dramatic sweep and introspection of the Fourth Ballade. With crystalline clarity, emotional depth and effortless technique, Ullman draws each miniature into its own richly coloured world, promising a night of intimacy, folklore and virtuosic storytelling.
