Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre follows Guan Zhongji at sixteen, twenty-six, thirty-six and forty-six. Four linked episodes return to the Qixi festival and show her life from girlhood through youth and middle age, including her love and her marriage to Zhao Mengfu. The opera presents her independent pursuit of love and an ideal marriage.

The red exterior and glass facade introduce a venue belonging to the China National Peking Opera Company. Two auditoriums offer different scales of performance: the main theatre and a smaller space on the fourth floor, both at the Ping’anli West Street address.
