Three Kunqu selections follow Du Liniang from a garden dream to longing, a self-portrait and her final farewell.

The Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre presents three excerpts from The Peony Pavilion. Du Liniang meets Liu Mengmei in a dream, returns to the garden hoping to find him, then paints her portrait as longing consumes her. Yu Xuejiao, Zhu Bingzhen and Gu Weiying take the role of Du Liniang in successive selections. These are excerpts, rather than the complete play.

Named after the Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang, this theatre brings traditional Chinese opera into a modern performance setting.
The red exterior and glass facade introduce a venue belonging to the China National Peking Opera Company. Two auditoriums offer different scales of performance: the main theatre and a smaller space on the fourth floor, both at the Ping’anli West Street address.
