Programme
Overview

Celebrate the spectacular launch of the Houston Symphony’s 2026–2027 season with a historic and patriotic musical journey, Celebrating America at 250! Led by Music Director Juraj Valčuha, this star-studded Opening Night Concert honors the rich, diverse tapestry of American music and history as the nation approaches its semiquincentennial. The evening features a monumental performance of Aaron Copland's timeless masterpiece, Lincoln Portrait, brought to life with a live narration by Academy Award-winning Texas icon Matthew McConaughey. Joining the orchestra on stage is internationally acclaimed, Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, delivering a soaring selection of classic American Broadway standards and art songs. From the cinematic, heart-pounding rhythms of John Williams to the soul-stirring melodies of standard Americana folklore, this concert is a definitive tribute to the American spirit.
