Revenge, loss and fierce combat drive the fortunes of the warrior Ma Chao.
Drawn from Romance of the Three Kingdoms, this linked three-part Peking opera follows Ma Chao as revenge gives way to the loss of his family and flight to Zhang Lu. It culminates in his prolonged duel with Zhang Fei, before Liu Bei intervenes. The production showcases the combat skills of the wusheng role.
Performed by the Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing as part of the Guocui Jixiang performance series. Announced performers include Wei Boyang. The cast performing on the day takes precedence. Performed in Chinese.
