Hans-Peter König is a German opera singer of bass.
Hans-Peter König studied singing at the Dortmund University of music and took lessons with Gladys Kuchta in Düsseldorf. This was followed by practical training at the International Opera Studio of the Zurich Opera House. First Engagements led him to various German opera houses, including the Staatstheater Hannover. Other stations in Germany were Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden and Munich. Since 2001/2002 he has been a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf. In 2009 he was awarded the honorary title Kammersänger.
Known to the king, especially as Wagner-singer was, he played many of the bass parts in Wagner operas such as Gurnemanz in Parsifal, König Heinrich in Lohengrin, or Daland in The flying Dutchman. From 2006 to 2009 he performed as Hagen in the Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuth Festival. Other successful roles include the Sarastro in Mozart's Magic Flute and Philipp II in Don Carlos of Verdi. Since 2006, King has also been on stage at international houses. A commitment to the Milan Scala followed performances at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, there again as Hagen.
After 2010, he was in Spain at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and France at the Opéra Bastille in Wagner roles. International Engagements also led him to Stockholm, Helsinki, Taipei, Tokyo and São Paolo.
