Overview

Lu Dongbin, wishing to enlighten Lu Sheng, instructed him to dream while resting his head on a porcelain pillow. Lu Sheng married a woman surnamed Cui, achieving fame and success, but offended a powerful minister and was demoted to the position of Kaihe Dingbian. Despite his achievements, he could not escape being framed and exiled to Yazhou, where he suffered severe torture. Later, his innocence was revealed, and he was promoted to Grand Secretary, indulging in pleasure and pleasure, but ultimately succumbed to old age and illness. Upon waking, he had a sudden realization and was reinstated as a sweeper in Heaven.

"The Dream of Handan" is the last of the four dreams in the play, written in 1601 when Tang Xianzu was 52 years old. Using the story of the Yellow Millet Dream from "The Pillow Book," it recreates the officialdom of the Ming Dynasty and re-explores the path to transcending the troubles of life and death. It is a play that integrates thought, artistry, and philosophy, and its value cannot be ignored. The Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe's production of "The Dream of Handan" is unique in the national drama scene. In terms of adhering to Tang Xianzu's original work and inheriting the essence of traditional culture, it is "the only one," and it is also one of the few major plays featuring an old male lead. The Kunqu Opera "The Dream of Handan" has won numerous awards in various competitions, including the Outstanding Play Award at the 3rd China Kunqu Opera Art Festival and the 12th Cultural Awards, and became a funded project of the National Stage Art Masterpiece Project in 2010. In 2017, it was selected as a key supported play in the Ministry of Culture's National Stage Art Masterpiece Creation Support Project.

Guangzhou Opera House is a Chinese opera house in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. Designed by Zaha Hadid, it opened on the 9th of May in 2010.

In April 2002 an international architectural competition attracted Coop Himmelb(l)au, Rem Koolhaas and Zaha Hadid – each producing detailed designs. In November 2002, Zaha Hadid's "double pebble" was announced the winner and the groundbreaking ceremony was held early in 2005.

The theatre has become the biggest performing centre in southern China and is one of the three biggest theatres in the nation alongside Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts and Shanghai's Shanghai Grand Theatre. May 2010 saw American filmmaker Shahar Stroh direct the premiere production of the opera house: Puccini's opera Turandot which had in previous years been a controversial opera in China.

The structure was designed by Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. It is conceived as two rocks washed away by the Pearl River. Its freestanding concrete auditorium set within an exposed granite and glass-clad steel frame took over five years to build, and was praised upon opening by architectural critic Jonathan Glancey in The Guardian, who called it "at once highly theatrical and insistently subtle."
