Overview

David Hrikuli was born in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. From a young age, he displayed extraordinary auditory sensitivity and mastery of technique. He began learning piano at age 8 and won his first international piano competition at age 11. From 2008 to 2015, he studied at the Zavi Palyashvili Central Music School for Gifted Children in Tbilisi under the tutelage of Daryan Kintsaze and Levaz Tawadze. In 2020, he entered the Queen Sofia Conservatory of Music in Madrid, Spain, studying under Galina Egijarova and Stanislav Jugenic, the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition gold medalist. In
October 2025, David Hrikuli participated in the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition as a Georgian representative, and his performance garnered widespread attention from music lovers worldwide. He performed Chopin's 24 Preludes, Op. 28, Scherzo No. 3, Op. 39, Fantastique Polonaise, Op. 61, and Piano Concerto in F minor, Op. 21, in four rounds of the competition. Gramophone magazine praised him for possessing "a keen intuition for appropriate tempos," and his playing was compared to that of a "modern Cortot." Although he did not make the final list of winners, he still received the "Highest Score Pianist Award (for those who did not win the finals)" and a special prize for his consistent technical performance and delicate musical interpretation.
After the competition, David Herriculli will begin his world tour with a solo recital in Katowice, Poland, on October 24, 2025, followed by an international tour organized by the Chopin Institute, where he has collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Israel Chamber Orchestra. His playing style is known for its delicate interpretations faithful to the original works, emphasizing the concept of "resonating with the composer."

Guangzhou Opera House is a Chinese opera house in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. Designed by Zaha Hadid, it opened on the 9th of May in 2010.

In April 2002 an international architectural competition attracted Coop Himmelb(l)au, Rem Koolhaas and Zaha Hadid – each producing detailed designs. In November 2002, Zaha Hadid's "double pebble" was announced the winner and the groundbreaking ceremony was held early in 2005.

The theatre has become the biggest performing centre in southern China and is one of the three biggest theatres in the nation alongside Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts and Shanghai's Shanghai Grand Theatre. May 2010 saw American filmmaker Shahar Stroh direct the premiere production of the opera house: Puccini's opera Turandot which had in previous years been a controversial opera in China.

The structure was designed by Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. It is conceived as two rocks washed away by the Pearl River. Its freestanding concrete auditorium set within an exposed granite and glass-clad steel frame took over five years to build, and was praised upon opening by architectural critic Jonathan Glancey in The Guardian, who called it "at once highly theatrical and insistently subtle."
