Overview
Pianist Daumants Liepiņš sweeps audiences away into a world of dreams with Schumann’s Fantasie op.17, plus Prokofiev's final "War Sonata".
Schumann’s Fantasy op.17, dedicated to Liszt, is contemporary with two other emblematic pieces written by the composer, the Kreisleriana and the Kinderszenen. A tormented declaration of love to Clara Wieck, it is divided into three parts; the soaring, vindictive, even anxious energy of the first two parts gradually gives way to a serene conclusion in a soothing C major.
