Venues in Reykjavik
Reykjavík is the capital and largest city of Iceland. It is the center of Iceland's cultural, economic, and governmental activity, and is a popular tourist destination. It is among the cleanest, greenest, and safest cities in the world.
In the city, it is worth visiting the National Museum and the Museum of the Sagas, the exposition of which is devoted to the history of the settlement of the country by Vikings. The impressive concrete church Hallgrimskirkja and the revolving glass dome of the Perlan building overlook the sea and the surrounding hills. A striking confirmation of the island's volcanic activity is the Blue Lagoon geothermal mineral lake, located near the village of Grindavik.
The Iceland Airwaves music festival is staged annually in November. This festival takes place all over the city, and the concert venue Harpa is one of the main locations. Other venues that frequently organise live music events are Kex, Húrra, Gaukurinn (grunge, metal, punk), Mengi (centre for contemporary music, avant-garde music and experimental music), the Icelandic Opera and the National Theatre of Iceland for classical music.
Reykjavík has a vibrant cultural and design scene, with plenty of exciting adventure tours, vivid nightlife, modern museums, world-class restaurants, galleries, shops, bars and clubs for you to explore throughout your stay.
Iceland’s capital city is also a terrific base from which to experience some of the island’s breathtakingly beautiful natural wonders, such as the famous Blue Lagoon geothermic spa, The Northern Lights or The Golden Circle; where you’ll witness spouting geysers, waterfalls, rift valleys and more. Whatever way you choose to spend your time in Reykjavík, this is one city break that is truly unique.
