Porto Rotondo
Porto Rotondo is a hamlet (Rudalza Porto Rotondo) of the municipality of Olbia. It is a locality that represents one of the most important realities of Sardinian tourism. Together with Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo is famous for being frequented, in the summer, by the Italian and international jet set.
Around the original structure, which was started in 1964 by the venetian Luigi and Nicolò Donà dalle Rose, in the framework of an initiative promoted by a group of entrepreneurs, including Vittorio Cini and the English banker George Frank, were made, timeshare, resort and villas, which, during the summer, can accommodate 20 000 guests with a peak of 32 000 in August. For the rest of the year the district has a fixed presence of one thousand residents. It is clear that the portorotondin architecture follows the structure of Venice, not surprisingly the main square, circular, conical and spiral, has been called Piazzetta San Marco.
