Guzheng player Yu Xiaohan and pianist Wang Zihao present A Moonlit Night on the Spring River, a four-season journey through traditional Chinese melodies and new crossover works for guzheng and piano.
Yu Xiaohan, a postgraduate guzheng student at the Central Conservatory of Music, performs with pianist Wang Zihao. Her training includes study with Professor Zhou Wang, while Wang's work spans classical, pop, jazz and animation-inspired music.
The performance places traditional guzheng solos alongside newer crossover works with piano. Evocations of moonlit palaces, fishing boats and flowing water meet the driving rhythms of Battling the Typhoon, while Butterfly Lovers brings the two instruments together in music inspired by an enduring love story.
The title work, A Moonlit Night on the Spring River, closes the concert. Guzheng and piano trace its river-and-moon imagery, offering a meeting of Chinese musical heritage and contemporary keyboard colour.
