Overview

In the tradition of Brecht's theater practice, the director and actress Ruth Brauer-Kvam stages a pleasurable self-empowerment of the characters with a lot of scenic humor and live music. In the last season, she brought MOLIÈRES SCHULE DER FRAUEN to the stage of the Lower Austria State Theater with great success with the audience and the press.

A guest performance by the Lower Austria State Theater.

"Tonight we're going to show you a certain prehistoric animal ... in German called 'landowner'." A true story, told by his hostess in Finnish exile, inspired Bertolt Brecht to write his fairytale folk piece in 1940. The rich farmer Puntila is a sociable philanthropist when drunk, but during his "fits of sobriety" he mutates into a tyrant who arbitrarily insults or dismisses his staff. Puntila's daughter Eva tries to forbid him to drink alcohol and thereby also becomes the plaything of his despotic antics. When Puntila tries to force her to marry, she stages an alleged love affair with the chauffeur Matti, which exacerbates the power relations on the estate. Always aware of the turmoil of World War II and the Finnish birch forests in mind, Bertolt Brecht wrote his comedy-like parable: “I can write almost anything about the Puntila, nothing about the war,” he noted in his diary.

Bühne Baden - Baden
Location   Theaterplatz 7

The Bühne Baden, with its three venues, Stadttheater, Sommerarena, and Max-Reinhardt-Foyer, is one of the leading companies in the field of musical entertainment theater.

The year-round program includes operas, operettas, musicals, concerts, and drama.

The program is complemented by varied program items in the Max-Reinhardt-Foyer as well as a separate children's and youth track.

The more than a hundred years old, listed buildings, city theater, and summer arena, offer a unique historical ambiance. The former also houses the youngest of the three venues, the Max Reinhardt Foyer.

The history of the Baden theater goes back to the year 1716 and thus has one of the oldest theater traditions in Lower Austria. As early as 1775, the city built the first theater building at the current location on Theaterplatz.
