Programme
Ludwig van Beethoven: Coriolan overture, Op.62
Maurice Ravel: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in G major
Richard Strauss: Eine Alpensinfonie (An Alpine Symphony), Op.64
Overview

Richard Strauss paints in his omnipotent Alpine Symphonya high alpine panorama: the sunrise follows the hike past streams, alpine pastures and glaciers. After a thunderstorm has broken in, you finally scale the summit. It is a score of superlatives, both in terms of composition and instrumentation. The score provides for a wind and thunder machine, celesta, organ and no fewer than twelve horns. Under the direction of the Italian conductor Jader Bignamini, music director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, who is making his Bern debut here, the BSO can pull out all the sound registers in this impressive homage to the mountain world and storm the pinnacle of orchestral artistry. And there is more: Bertrand Chamayou (he is also a guest at Casino Bern for the first time) takes over the solo part in the G major Concerto by his compatriot Maurice Ravel. As a virtuoso showpiece – cheerful, brilliant, Classical and jazzy at the same time - this half of the concert also stands for entertainment at the highest level. To get in the mood, Bignamini chooses the brazen sounds of theCoriolan Overture, a skillful prelude that will make this concert an unforgettable experience.
