Overview

Ran Space's Chinese musical follows a gifted pianist whose entire world is the ocean liner on which he grows up.

Based on the story by Alessandro Baricco, this stage production follows the orphan known as 1900 aboard the Virginian. Passengers bring the outside world to him, but the boundless possibilities of life on land challenge the order he has found at sea. Dove Attia's score combines classical, rock and jazz styles, while a tilting deck and shifting light bring the movement of the ocean onto the stage.

Directed by Xu Chongye, with a book by Wen Ya and Zhang Mingzhu and lyrics by Huang Yajie, Yang Jingyi and EZ-Ven. Choreography is by Julia Cheng, with Hou Ying responsible for version 2.0; sets are by Alfons Flores and costumes by Robert Wun.

The rotating cast features Xu Junshuo, Liu Lingfei and Bai Jugang as 1900; Guo Jiaxuan, Yang Haochen and Wang Rui as Tim; Ma Tianlong and Zhai Lishuotian as Morton; and Pan Hangwei and Li Weiling as Gaia.
