Programme
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Vienna Residenz Orchestra
Overview

The Vienna Residence Orchestra, a chamber orchestra with a long tradition, performs works of Viennese classical music to perfection.

Visit the successfully established daily concert series in the most beautiful historical Viennese palaces! The chamber ensemble of the Vienna Residence Orchestra, with 5-12 musicians, plays the baroque Auersperg Palace twice a day throughout the year.

The orchestra organizes traditional classical concerts with the world-famous music of W. A. Mozart and Johann Strauss. Renowned opera singers and a classical ballet duo will enchant you in the Rosenkavalier Hall of this historic baroque palace.

The annual winter quintet plays from January to March. This takes place in the so-called “Viennese composition”. The name for a typical form of the then salon orchestra in Vienna: first violin, second violin, cello, piano and flute. They will be accompanied by a moving soloist and professional ballet dancers. The performances by artists and the perfect acoustics in the Rosenkavaliersaal let you travel back in time to the Viennese classic.

Whether you come at 6:30 pm or 8:15 pm, the concert consists of two parts: The first focuses on the works of W. A. Mozart. Enjoy the most beautiful melodies of this world-famous composer from Salzburg, such as the Figaro Overture, popular chamber music works such as “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” and the most famous arias from Mozart’s operas.

The second part is dedicated to the Johann Strauss dynasty. Swinging waltzes and polkas, as well as the world-famous Blue Danube waltz and the traditional Radetzky March form the highlight of our concerts. In the approx. 20 minute intermission, you’ll have the opportunity to refresh yourself with a glass of sparkling wine or orange juice and, depending on the season, to enjoy the extensive, unique private park.

On selected dates, the daily concerts and parallel events take place at other historical concert venues, such as the Vienna Stock Exchange Palace, the exclusive Daun-Kinsky Palace, and the Museum of Military History (Arsenal).

Venue Info

Auersperg Palace - Vienna
Location   Auerspergstrasse 1

The Auersperg Palace is a splendidly dignified but at the same time graceful baroque palace, with a 600 m2 private park. It has been the home and “residence” of the Vienna Residence Orchestra since its foundation. They perform most of their daily concerts here.

Music has always been the invisible center of the palace. From Christoph Willibald Gluck, through Joseph Haydn and W. A. Mozart, who like many other musicians, composed for world premieres in the palace, the arc stretches to Richard Strauss, whose opera “Der Rosenkavalier” was inspired by the palace. The palace was built in 1706 by Giovanni Christiano Neupauer, according to plans by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach for Hieronymus Capece di Rofrano. In 1777, ownership passed to the Auersperg dynasty. It has always been a meeting place of European nobility and politics. After years of hosting the resistance movement, the palace was the seat of the first Austrian government after the Second World War in 1945.
