Then soar with Christopher Tin’s iconic Sogno di Volare, drift through Orlando Gibbons’s pristine The Silver Swan, and linger in the haunting beauty of Jessica Curry’s Echo. An unforgettable evening of sublime music and profound expression.The concert opens with Christopher Tin’s flight-themed suite, where delicate motifs take wing and culminate in the iconic Sogno di Volare, its soaring melody evoking boundless skies. Next, Orlando Gibbons’s The Silver Swan unfolds in stately serenity, its shimmering lines reflecting timeless grace. Jessica Curry’s Echo, a CEFC commission dedicated to her late father, then envelopes the hall in a poignant hush, its haunting harmonies resonating long after the final note. After intermission, Mozart’s Requiem emerges in all its legendary drama. Commissioned under mysterious circumstances and believed by the composer to be his own funeral mass, the work was left unfinished at his death in 1791 and completed by his pupil Franz Xaver Süssmayr. From the ethereal Introitus to the thunderous Dies Irae and the heart-wrenching Lacrimosa, Mozart’s masterful interplay of darkness and light reveals extraordinary beauty, subtlety and emotional depth that continue to captivate every generation.

Hidden from the world for 80 years, this once sleeping giant has been reawakened for a new generation to discover. From theatre, opera and dance to comedy, concerts and cinema – Alexandra Palace Theatre’s programme stays true to the eclectic spirit of the Victorians who built it.

The story of Alexandra Palace Theatre is truly unique. Opened in 1875, the Theatre was a place of spectacle and delight where audiences of up to 3,000 people were entertained by pantomime, opera, drama and ballet. A feat of Victorian engineering, the impressive stage machinery was designed so that performers could appear, fly into the air and disappear through the stage.

However, it struggled to compete with the might of the West End and the theatre went on to be used as a cinema, a chapel and the home of music hall stars before a spell as a BBC prop store and workshop. For 80 years it has been closed to the public, a hidden gem perched high above the city.
