Fan Tao conducts the Beijing Union Symphony Orchestra in a New Year programme spanning Chinese orchestral favourites, Viennese waltzes, Dvořák and film themes.
Beijing Union Symphony Orchestra is a privately run, fully staffed professional orchestra. Its young players have trained at music institutions in China and abroad; international recruitment and a flexible approach support programming that mixes tradition with new ideas.
Fan Tao is its artistic director and principal conductor. The organiser identifies him as a national first-class conductor and credits him with a jury special prize at Finland’s Sibelius International Conducting Competition.
Chinese melodies, Viennese waltzes and screen music share the programme. Spring Festival Overture and My Motherland stand beside The Blue Danube and Voices of Spring, while an excerpt from Dvořák’s New World Symphony adds a more expansive symphonic canvas.
Every attendee needs their own ticket and assigned seat, with no seat switching; food and drink are not allowed, and latecomers or those re-entering must wait for a break between pieces.
