Alessandro Corbelli, born in Turin,studied singing with Giuseppe Valdengo and then with Claude Thiolas. Since his debut at the early age of 22, he has become an outstanding exponent of the bel canto and Mozart roles for baritone. He has sung in all the major opera houses: La Scala since 1989 in Cosi fan Tutte,Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, la Cenerentola, Le ComteOry, Lodoiska, Fedora. : Covent Garden in L’Italiana in Algeri, La Cenerentola, Cosi fan Tutte, Don Pasquale, Turco in Italia , La Fille du Regiment, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Adriana Lecouvreur .Paris Opera in La Cenerentola, L’Italiana in Algeri, Cosi fan Tutte, Madam Butterfly, Gianni Schicchi and La Fille du Regiment : Vienna Staatsoper in Cosi fan Tutte, Le Nozze di Figaro, I Puritani and La Cenerentola Since his debut at the Metropolitan opera in 1997 in La Cenerentola,(Dandini) he has returned regularly for L’Italiana in Algeri., L’Elisir d’Amore, Gianni Schicchi and La Cenerentola (Don Magnifico).
He has also sung in Munich, Cologne, Geneva, Madrid, Barcelona,Toulouse, Rome, Naples, Bologna, Florence, Turin as well as at such important festivals as Edinburgh, Salzburg and the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. He made his first appearance at the Glyndebourne Festival in 1985 as Dandini in La Cenerentola, returning for Leporello in Don Giovanni, new productions of Gianni Schicchi, and Don Pasqua
During recent seasons Alessandro Corbelli has sung Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola with Los Angeles Opera and at the Metropolitan Opera,, Dr. Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in San Francisco and Chicago.
As well as singing Gianni Schicchi at the Teatro Regio Torino.
He sang Geronio in a new production of Il Turco in Italia at the 2014 Aix-en-Provence Festival.
During the 2014/15 season engagements included Covent Garden (Barbiere) Cosi fan Tutte in Houston, Barbiere di Siviglia in Los Angeles as well as Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvereur at the Paris Opera.
this season Alessandro Corbelli has been to Santiago chile for Il Turco in Italia and to the Lyric Opera chicago for don Magnifico in La Cenerentola. Later in the season he returns to Vienna and the Rome Opera for La Cenerentola and to the Metropolitan Opera for Dulcamara in L’elisir d’Amore and will round of the season by a return to the Glyndebourne Festival for dr. bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
Alessandro Corbelli has made many recordings and the most recent include Adriana Lecouvreur (Covent Garden) gianni Schicchi (Glyndebourne) Don Pasquale (Glyndebourne).
He has received many awards, including the prestigious Premio Abbiati della Critica for Leporello in Don Giovanni at La Scala and the premio Rossini d’Oro for Don Geronio in Il Turco in Italia in Pesaro.
